Fun Family Game! Recommended! Dec 14, 2008

"The White Wolf of Icicle Creek" is a very solid addition to the Nancy Drew game franchise. We are fans of the Nancy Drew games and up to now have played all of the other games on PC. The limited replayabilty of the game likely made it a poor choice for the Wii, but since we play the games with the whole family it was easier for us to to do it our living room rather than our cramped den where the PC is.
The game pretty much follows the format of the most recent Nancy Drew games. This time Nancy has to solve a fairly challenging mystery in a lodge filled with an interesting array of guests/suspects.
What we liked:
* Great plot and story line * Longer game play than recent Nancy Drew games * Fantastic graphics, the best so far * Really good puzzles and challenges
What we didn't like:
* Repetitive tasks, Nancy's cover is as a maid (and cook) so you have to clean rooms EVERY day * Limited exploration time
This Nancy Drew game is a step up from recent installments and was a lot of fun for us!
Recommended!

Makes you think; something for all ages Dec 30, 2008

I got this game for my mom, and it is one of the only Wii games she actually likes. First of all, it's based on books she read as a kid. Second, it's not violence/action based. You explore a lodge in snowy remote Canada, and uncover secrets about all the lodge guests. There are many puzzles you have to solve that vary in difficulty from easy to hard, and it's a great game for our whole family to play and try to solve together. There are a few action-oriented mini-games (cooking, jumping across icebergs, etc) that the kids love, so there's a bit of something for everyone. Highly recommended - it kept everyone engrossed for many hours.

Great Mystery Game Mar 09, 2010
By audgator I just finished this game and I absolutely loved it! If you want a point and click mystery game, then this is for you!
I have read all the reviews and am a little surprised, I thought the load times were extremely short. They were like a second. That is long? Is this new generation so technically advanced that there is no patience? With most mystery games, the first time I played I did a lot of exploring so that I knew what was going on, etc. By exploring at getting used to the game I learned to navigate quite quickly and could zip trough where ever I needed.
I don't understand how people thought this game was boring. The music was perfect for the game, I can't remember getting sick of it (And at one point I played the game for like 6 hours straight into the middle of the night) and kept me intrigued. The story line is good, I loved how everyone seemed suspect (as they should).
The controls were a little funky at times, but not so much that it made me not enjoy the game, I thought they were really well done in the sense that I could click through quickly, the only problem being that sometimes the turn around icon was a bit off (as in it wouldn't appear).
As for the repetitive maid tasks, just don't do them if you don't like them! I would set the alarm for 9am so that I didn't have to do breakfast, but I liked cleaning the rooms because I think it was necessary to see if stuff changed.
I played this game on the senior mode, but for those that seem to not have as much patience I would do the junior level. And regardless of which level, TURN ON THE TWINKLE OPTION! Sometimes you can't see if you have a darker set TV and this makes seeing the items easier! (Some of the items you find are journals, etc. and the only time I really got stuck was simply because I didn't realize there were more pages to flip through in some items I found).
I was sad when this game ended because I thought it was really excellent!

It's the same thing as the PC game Dec 19, 2009
By JJ I got this game expecting it to be the same story as the PC but have a different way of solving the story. Nope, the game is exactly the same thing as the PC version with the exception of 2-3 puzzles.
Story-You have been called to a lodge in Canada that has been experiencing accidents ever since a white wolf showed up. The white wolf will show up then something will go wrong such as an explosion or a broken window. Your goal is to find out who is causing these accidents and why the white wolf is at the lodge.
Graphics-They were a step down from the PC version, but otherwise everything was the same. It's a little bit darker, I think, and smaller, but otherwise, the same stuff.
Sound-The sound is 100% the same thing as the PC game. I don't think that they changed a thing. For those of you who don't know, the voice acting is great, and the music is suspenseful mixed with winter.
Gameplay-The point-and-click third person is the same, but the way of getting around is much harder. It's hard to point the wiimote, and the loading times are horrible. Some of the puzzles changed to be made more fun (such as the cooking), but otherwise the puzzles are the same. What you have to do in the game is the same as the PC version as are your responses to other people's comments/questions.
Fun-It's a fun game, but we have all seen it before in the PC version.
Length-It's a little bit longer than the PC version (13-14 hours) only because of the loading times. The fact that it's hard to get the wiimote to do what you want doesn't help.
I think that if you don't have a PC, and you enjoy mysteries, you should get this game, but if you have a PC, get the version for the PC. If you already have the game for the PC, don't get this game unless you can get it for $10 or less.

Enjoyable mystery game for all ages Jul 07, 2010
By Fred Badger

My 8 yr. old daughter and I enjoyed playing this. It doesn't make much use of the wii remote functions in the main portions of the game, but there are times when the unique wii remote functions come into play - especially in the cooking portions (Nancy has to make meals at the lodge). It takes awhile to get to the fun part, but the puzzles are fun to solve. There are several puzzles/challenges that are spoiler-proof. What I mean by this is - even if you look up a walkthrough, you still have to have the skill to complete the challenges - and it's very satisfying when you do! The wrap-up is kind of blah, but along the way, we had plenty of "YAY" moments. It's a mystery game - not an action game, and not an "I Spy" game. Totally clean and suitable for family play. All in all, a very enjoyable game.
