The paper covering the blades is for packaging purposes only. Once you put the batteries in and turn it on, you have a beautiful blue and red saber (blades are white when turned off). They are easy to use and make game play that much more fun. They are sturdy and have the look of a real saber hilt. I have purchased another brand of Wii sabers prior to these and they were way to fragile and broke within a couple days. Breaking them was my fault cause I hit something, but I have accidently done that with these as well, and they were just fine. I dont recommend hitting objects though, eventually they will break. These sabers are much sturdier and have a way better glow then the others. If you want a saber for your wii, then these are it.

If you want a lightsaber for your Wii, you have probably seen either a pure white one or an all chrome one. Both are lame looking... but the Thrustmaster Wii lightsabers are awesome. Why? I'm glad you asked.
1. Legit design: these don't look like playskool toys. They look like they are out of the movies, from the emitter shrouds to the bolts that hold the shrouds on. The size is just about right, as well. You get two sabers, each looks different.
2. The blades: they light up (for darkened room playing of The Force Unleashed), they are longer than the competitors, look cooler, and they are removeable.
3. The construction: I've had some near misses, mishaps with furniture, and accidental clashes with my oppenent (during duel mode in The Clone Wars), and thus far, not a broken part on either of them. Emitter shrouds are kept on by thumbscrews- which is even cooler.
4. No one else has them: Others will be psychologically defeated before you even fight- they will walk up with their playskool/nerf saber, see you and your weapon, and their morale and spirit will be crushed.
5. Options: you can play in the following configurations-
a. with Wiimote, batteries and blades attached
b. with Wiimote, batteries and no blade with shroud (lighter and looks cool)
c. with wiimote and no batteries, but still with shroud (the lightest)
Why keep the shroud on? Because you will feel like Luke who just built his own saber ("Now your training is complete." - Vader)
Why list different configurations? Because your forearms will ache, and be pumped full of blood, but you will never want to admit defeat, and you will want to lighten your rig for a tactical advantage. Or you could keep it in its heaviest configuration to gain an advantage over that little kid who keeps schooling you in other games but just isn't strong enough to keep waving around the weight of the fully armed and operational lightsaber and thus will lose before your Form VII saber mastery! (Sad, I know. This is how Jedi eventually become Sith. The path to the dark side starts with the mockery of a child. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.)
Anything bad about these? Well you have to get used to the grip, as to not accidentally press the pause button. You only get a red and blue blade, no green or better yet, purple. Oh yeah, the final bad thing: they aren't real :)

The paper on the blades is only there to give the customer an idea of what they'll look like after you take them out of the box, unwrap them and turn them on. The paper is not meant to be kept on!
I've had these for a few weeks. I bought them for my daughter and I to use when we play the most recent Star Wars games. They look very cool. Using them makes game play feel more realistic and enjoyable. It's obviously not going to be as comfortable to hold as a wii remote is. My daughter really likes them too but she says it might take some time to get used to because they feel heavy. She's 7.

These are indeed some of the best looking toy light sabers out there on the market. The plastic glow tubes with LED lights fit well with a spring and twist action, then a collar goes over the joint and is secured with one or two screws - depending on the model, ensuring a good connection with the base and ensuring the blades do not accidentally fall off.
The Wiimotes when inserted into the handle, gives the entire thing some heft. That said... here are the disadvantages.
1. With the Wiimote in the handle, the cursor is disabled. Select your game from the menu before inserting the Wiimote. After that, you can use the D-pad to move through the selections.
2. Given that the Wiimotes are how the toy is balanced, it is easy to accidentally press the 1 and 2 buttons with the base of your hand.
3. Acceleration detection is sluggish. I bought this set for play with Force Unleashed. That said, saber combos are sluggish and I could not manage a Force Repulse with the accessory on the Wiimote.
Am I keeping them though? Yes. They are a kick-a$$ accessory for the kiddie's Jedi outfits. Perfect size for a 5 year old.

When it comes down to the Nintendo Wii, many gamers love the way we can play our games. But, for Star Wars fanatics, they really want to feel like they are using the force on the Wii, because of the acclaim of the new Star Wars: The Clones video game. The Thrustmaster Glow Sabers for the Wii, which were designed specifically for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, bring in a excitement of gameplay on the Wii that hard core Jedi's had wanted, but there honestly here is a lot of limitations with the sabers. While the efforts of seeing them glow in the dark, make it exciting for Wii gamers, they are very clunky, and are hard to control when playing the game. While they cost around $30 for the Wii, they just don't completely feel like you are using the force with the Wii.
